3rd Annual Women and Wheels Benefit Event
06 September 2012 06:00 | @ Richmond Internation Raceway

What is it like to have your son or husband going 200 miles an hour around a racetrack? Or having to get your kids to dance lessons and your husband just did a 360 at Daytona? Questions like this will be answered when we present the 3rd Annual Women and Wheels Benefit event.

Join us this year at the beautiful Torque Club overlooking the action packed Richmond International Raceway track on Thursday, September 6th as we welcomed the wives, mom’s and girlfriends of the NASCAR drivers.

This year our honorary Chairman is Tammy Kahne, Mother of Kasey Kahne driver of the #5 Chevrolet sponsored by Farmers Insurance and Quaker State. Tammy will be joined by a number of other wives and moms of the drivers and will deliver a great evening of entertainment and fun! The night includes a silent auction filled with NASCAR items for the teams and their drivers, local gift cards, clothes and an assortment of great items. Guests get to meet and greet the ladies before they take the stage and take part in a Q&A session where YOU get to ask the questions. Hosted by K95fm on air personalities. The night is full of laughs and fun and all to benefit a great cause, Freedom House.

Freedom House is a non-profit in Richmond Virginia that has been providing food, shelter and the power to change to the region’s homeless and working poor since 1983. Freedom House operates the area’s only Soup Kitchen, the Conrad Center, serving over 63,000 meals a year. Freedom House also operates two transitional housing programs for homeless single adult men and women. Our vision is to end the cycle of hunger and homelessness for the people we serve.

Tickets will go on sale the first of July so get your racing suit on and grab your helmet and be ready to join us for a great evening!

43rd Street Festival
15 September 2012 | @ 43rd Street and Forest Hill Avenue

The 43rd Street Festival of the Arts will take place on Saturday, September 15th, at the corner of Forest Hill Avenue and 43rd Street from 10 am to 5 pm.  The event will feature 70 of the region’s finest contemporary artisans along with a full day of musical entertainment and great food.  About 8,000 people attend the event, with many making it an annual fall tradition.

This event is a true community effort with proceeds benefiting Freedom House, our local homeless service provider. Artisans donate work for a raffle and proceeds of the artist designed T-shirt help raise money for the event.  The festival is free to the public; however, donations can be made at each of the four entrances to the show.  With the help of sponsorships, we have doubled our advertising budget, increased attendance, and increased the amount raised for Freedom House for this one-day event. Over the years, we have raised more than $100,000 to help serve the needs of the homeless inRichmond.

Empty Bowls at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart
18 October 2012 05:30 | @ 800 S. Cathedral Street, Richmond, VA

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls began in 1990 by a high school art teacher in Michigan. The students wanted to have a fundraiser to support a local food drive. The students made ceramic bowls for a fund raising meal. Guests were served a simple meal of soup and bread, and were invited to keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world.

The money raised through Empty Bowls allows Freedom House to provide services and programs for the hungry and those living in a housing crisis and it helps raise awareness of these complex issues. Freedom House held its first Empty Bowls in 1991 and the event has grown in popularity every year.

In Freedom House’s version of the event, we have local congregations and community groups host the event, provide the soup, bread, desserts, and drinks, and help staff the event. Local professional potters and art students make and donate their works of art to Freedom House. Guests arrive with their tickets and pick a bowl of their choosing as a way to remember those in our own community that face the issue of hunger.

Seatings are at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20
